GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The guiding principles of The Freedom League are based on the solid foundation found in the platform of the North Dakota Republican Party (https://ndgop.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Platform-2023.pdf). These nine pillars provide a basis for driving public policy through our elected officials and party activists. The Freedom League supports the party platform as it is written and works within the party to promote its principles.

INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY

The rights of American citizens proceed from The Creator, not from government. Government authority proceeds only from the consent of the People. Individuals, including the unborn, have the intrinsic right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The Freedom League stands for the God-given rights of every individual, born and unborn. We mobilize citizens to resist government overreach, defend life at every stage, and protect freedoms rooted not in bureaucracy but in divine authority and constitutional design.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Individuals and families are responsible for their behavior. Public policy should encourage and empower their efforts to provide for their own health, safety, education, moral fortitude and personal wealth.

The Freedom League promotes policies that strengthen family and personal accountability. We educate voters and legislators on reforms that reward work, moral discipline, and self-reliance—empowering North Dakotans to shape their own futures without dependence on the state.

LIMITED GOVERNMENT

Federal, state and local governments should be transparent and limited to their respective roles, in accordance with the Tenth Amendment. The size of government, government regulations, and entitlement and transfer programs, should be limited to essential, inherently governmental functions.

The Freedom League fights to shrink government to its constitutional bounds. Through grassroots organizing and strategic lobbying, we oppose regulatory creep, federal encroachment, and wasteful spending—restoring sovereignty to states, communities, and citizens.

PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH AND THE RULE OF LAW

National security, national sovereignty, public safety, the right of self-defense, the rule of constitutional and statutory law, and civil justice should be preserved without excessive burdens to civil liberty.

The Freedom League defends national sovereignty, constitutional justice, and local control. We equip legislators and activists with the tools to safeguard our borders, support law enforcement, and maintain public order without sacrificing personal freedom.

LOWER TAXES

Individuals, families and the government should be responsible in their spending. Taxpayers expect the government to be efficient and avoid waste with their money. The State should only collect taxes to fund legitimate government functions. Government taxes and fees should be limited to essential, inherently governmental functions and not for the forced redistribution of wealth, or disproportionate advantages for targeted interest groups.

The Freedom League champions fiscal sanity and responsible governance. We push for taxpayer protections like TABOR (Tax Payer Bill of Rights), demand budget transparency, and work to eliminate unjust redistributions of wealth—ensuring government serves citizens, not special interests.

RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS

We uphold the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, a right, which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment.

The Freedom League defends the unalienable right to self-defense. We rally opposition to gun control efforts and promote legislation that strengthens Second Amendment protections and affirms individual firearm ownership as foundational to liberty.

FAMILY INTEGRITY AND THE AMERICAN MORAL TRADITION

Traditional American families should be encouraged and supported by policies to nurture strong marriages consisting of one man and one woman, to support moral values, and to create, control and maintain their individual wealth with minimal interference from government. We acknowledge the immutable biological reality of, and the differences between, the two sexes, male and female, as well as their unique and complementary functions, to be the foundation for natural human life.

The Freedom League stands with families against cultural and governmental attacks. We promote policies that uphold biological truth, traditional marriage, and parental authority while resisting ideological coercion in schools, healthcare, and public life.

QUALITY EDUCATION

Parents have the right to rear and educate their children according to high standards of character and quality, with minimal government interference. Parents are ultimately responsible for their family’s education and should be able to choose among traditional, charter, home school, online, private, or other alternative schools. School children should not be restricted in their rights to voluntary prayer, religious expression, and acknowledgment of God, the American flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

The Freedom League fights for true parental choice in education. We support homeschooling, private, charter, and classical education options—and oppose progressive indoctrination, federal mandates, and censorship of faith, patriotism, and moral truth in the classroom.

LEGISLATIVE INTEGRITY

Legislators lead through personal moral integrity, and should consider this Platform responsibly before supporting or opposing legislation.

The Freedom League holds elected officials accountable to principle over politics. We mentor legislators to legislate with integrity, equip them to advance the conservative platform, and mobilize citizens to support or challenge lawmakers based on their alignment with these values.
